Family Safety Starts At Home; Tips From Ottawa Police Services
The Ottawa Police Service is dedicated to the safety and security of our community. They work within the community to promote awareness around family safety, the law and ensure that people’s rights, lives, communities and property are secure.
Some of the valuable programs and services that The Ottawa Police Services have developed to specifically benefit Ottawa families and children include:
- Neighbourhood Watch; which is a program designed to help neighbours watch out for neighbours.
- Home security inspections ~ Did you know that you can have a police representative visit your home (house, condo, apartment, etc.) to provide a safety audit?
- Child Print ~ educate your child/children on street safety, get them familiar with what and who police officers are and keep an up to date record of your child with the child print booklet.
- Youth & Parent Programs ~ containing a parent zone, youth zone, and kid zone featuring:
Safety and Prevention Tips are also available through pamphlets, video tapes, presentations and by providing free home security inspections.
Some additional safety tips offered for parents include:
- Teaching your child what to do when faced with a difficult situation such as:
- “Getting lost is a shopping mall”
- “Being bulled at school”
- “A friendly stranger offered him a ride home”
